Solitude is muse within itself. This album was primarily recorded as Rees was sequestered in the Catskills in a small 8x12 recording shack (an old sufboard hung on the outside wall - thus the name of the album) in between graduate programs. A few guests sent in tracks of drums or vocals, but mostly Rees did this by homself. It represents a transformative moment in his writing and production ethos as he slowly began stepping outside the Americana sound of his previous albums and into more electronica using samples and digital manipulation to create his song scapes.
