Brighter Daze

It's so much easier remembering all the things that we forgot
then to look back to recall that better days in fact were not
It's the bright spots in the tapestry of time that we admire
More than the shadows on the edges marred by fire
Everyone’s resistant to the onslaught of the change
That forces in the difference where we only want the same
To Reassess the actions that we understood as right
Find empathy for someone with a different line of sight
And see brighter days weren't quite so bright
In fact those brighter days were someone else's night
It's an innocent illusion and disillusionment is rough
When the piper comes for payment and you just ain’t saved enough
To right the wrongs of inheritance we expected to deserve
The world will warp and weave with unanticipated curves
Funny how this life often throws us into change
It brings on alterations which we thought would stay the same
We need to reassess our understandings of what’s right
And empathize with someone else’s line of sight
Who saw brighter days as not so bright
Our brightest days were someone else's night
